TR-1 Gold FAQ's
This guide is to help with possible problems with your TR-1 Gold System. Before calling TR-1 for service please check the following guide for a possible soultion. If the answer to your problem is not found, please have your date of purchase and your serial number of your Electrohydraulic unit ready for the technician so he/she can help you with your questions.
Before you call:
1. Have you Calibrated your compass ball ?
2. Have you verified the tachometer pickup is working?
3. Have you tuned the autopilot to your boats configuration?
4. Have you verified battery voltage? You must have 12volts at the battery.
Low battery voltage, may and can cause numerous problems with the autopilot.
Be sure to have your battery load checked annually, at your battery retailer.
Steps 1, 2, & 3, must be done for your autopilot to work correctly.
1. Autopilot turns hard over to the starboard (right) or to the Port(left).
a. Hydraulic hoses could be reversed.
Solution: Verify steering, a right turn from the handheld should steer your
kicker to make a right hand turn.
If hoses are reversed use code 259 to correct the problem. (page 32) Lock this
change into memory.
b. Verify your compass ball is in the correct position; cables should be exiting
straight down, so that the fl uxgate is able to
fl oat, and work correctly.
2. Autopilot is wandering in one direction:
a. Have you done Compass Calibration?
Solution: Compass Calibration, is code 47, see page 33 for directions.
b. Have you tuned your TR-1 Gold for your boat?
Solution: Tuning your boat is found on pages 33 and 34 of this manual.
c. Fluid level may be low.
d. Magnetic infl uence to the compass ball. See page 7 (magnetic disturbances)
or page 11 for installation instructions.
3. Autopilot goes to standby every 10 minutes:
a. Verify autopilot is seeing engine rpms. Code 36, if tachometer is not working,
select code 349 and turn off the safety
monitor, and call factory for customer service.
b. Battery voltage is low.
Solution: Check for low voltage at battery, It must be at 12V. Too many electronics
hooked up to one battery, may
cause the battery to fall below 9V, and cause the system to go into Standby.
You may need to get a second battery.
4. Autopilot works great after you have set-up the system, and then
the next time you use the TR-1 it does not work as well as before.
a. Did you download the adjustment you entered for tuning.
Solution: re-tune the boat and download these into the autopilot.(The tune must
be down loaded into permanent memory.)
5. Autopilot manifold appears to be leaking: Do not attempt to reseal
hydraulic pump. Clean off spillage and verify leak. It may have just been spilled
while filling, or could have been overfi lled. If this is not the case, please
call customer service.
6. Autopilot does not communicate with your GPS:
Solution: Verify NMEA/ 0183 connection color codes are correct.You will also
need your GPS
manual to verify the following.
1. Verify you have set the baud rate at 4800.
2. Verify the NMEA output is turned on. (Your GPS)
3. Verify North has been set into your autopilot (Code 48).
7. Throttle control not working from your handheld remote:
Solution: Verify throttle pull line is adjusted correctly.
Verify throttle stop block touches micro switch when idle is pushed, if not
see your throttle actuator
